The purpose of my action research is to determine whether implementing a flipped classroom model will enhance student engagement and retention.
I began by asking what would happen if I took a new approach to using my (limited) class time. I generally use my face time with students to do lectures and demonstrations, and then I assign problems and exercises for homework. In the flipped classroom, activities that require more critical thinking are completed in the classroom, while the students view podcasts and videos at home in lieu of lectures.
I hope to demonstrate how I am improving my practice, as well as how I can contribute to the body of literature, by improving my students’ achievement in the context of a flipped classroom.
